Along the 100-kilometer stretch of the Li River, mountain peaks rise into the sky. It is one of China's most famous scenic areas, featured in many scroll paintings. Between spectacular limestone peaks tourists will see graceful bamboo groves, farmers tending rice paddies, and lumbering water buffaloes pulling carts or cooling off in the river. One may see fishermen gliding along on their narrow bamboo rafts, and if lucky enough, the chance to enjoy farmers fishing cormorants is there. Boats depart from various wharves, according to the height of the river at different times of the year.
